Mythic Portraits
These sessions are a meeting place between photography and inner work. Between the body, the soul, and the deeper currents that shape your life.
Through movement, improv, and play, different aspects of yourself are given space to emerge. Whether it is a mythical or archetypal energy you are already wanting to explore, or if you just want to see what naturally emerges, it’s up to you.
WHAT THIS WORK IS
This is a collaborative, intuitive process shaped by:
Parts work— honoring the many voices and selves within you
Soul-oriented inquiry— what is asking to be seen, expressed, or reclaimed
Mythic and archetypal imagery—the deeper patterns moving through your life
The intelligence of the body and the natural world that want to express through you
We may work with:
Movement and stillness
Improvisation and play
Texture, fabric, or costuming
The landscape as an active participant, not just a backdrop
There is a deep listening guiding the entire process.
WHAT EMERGES
People often meet parts of themselves they didn’t expect.
The one who longs.
The one who knows.
The one who aches.
The one who loves.
The magician. The crone. The trickster. The wise woman. The fool. The healer who has been afraid to come out.
The sensuous one. The magical one. The one who keeps coming to you in dreams. The one who has always been there all along, waiting for you to finally acknowledge and embody it.
Often, these aspects feel ancient. Sometimes they feel tender, exciting, or newly forming. What matters is allowing them to be witnessed, and to exist in a way that can be seen and felt.
The images become mirrors, companions, guides, and compasses.
“Myth is not an escape from reality, but a way of seeing more deeply into it.”
— Sharon Blackie
THE EXPERIENCE
Before
We will connect in advance. You’re invited to share what’s moving through you in your life, what you’re curious about, or what feels ready to be explored.
If there are archetypes, or inner figures you’re already in relationship with, we can include them. You’re welcome to bring any clothing, costumes, or objects that feel meaningful for you—pieces that carry a mood, a memory, or a sense of who you are becoming.
I also have a collection of costumes and flowing fabrics, scarves, crowns, hats, dresses, and movement pieces, that you can draw from.
During
There is space to arrive, to feel, to listen. I offer gentle guidance, reflections, and invitations. We follow what has energy. You may notice some moments are more still. Some may be playful, strange, or unexpected. All of it belongs. Some people find that working with fabric or simple adornment allows different aspects of themselves to come forward more easily.
After
You receive a curated set of edited images. Many people find themselves returning to them over time, seeing new layers, new meanings, new parts of themselves reflected back.
If you find yourself curious, and want to know more, I’d love to meet you in a free 20-minute consultation.

They are lanterns.”

WHY THIS MATTERS
Myths help us see the deeper patterns in our life and offer us a way of seeing our gifts, understanding our trials, and reconnecting us with our instincts.
Myths are maps
From a depth psychology perspective we are not living random lives— but rather, we have deep undercurrents of archetypal patterns shaping our life. Once we see the myth we are living, it offers us context for what we may be going through. It helps us make sense of what might feel like chaos, it helps us see the deeper reasons for why things are happening in our lives.
Myths give us meaning
These archetypal patterns are expressed through inner voices, impulses, longings, and ways of being. When these parts are really seen, and expressed, something powerful begins to shift. There is a self-recognition that is meaningful and deeply profound.
Place
The land here shapes what is created in our session. I have been wandering and listening to this landscape for twenty years. I have discovered many of the most wondrous places to create in.
There is the option to choose between the desert landscapes surrounding Moab, where red rock, open sky, and the ancient stones create an extraordinary backdrop.
Or in the nearby mountain forests of the La Sal range. The La Sal’s carry incredible groves with creeks, moss, and an exquisite atmosphere of magic. I have spent years discovering the best spots for profound imagery.
“Myth is a way of remembering what the soul already knows.”
— Robert Moss
“Sarah created a space that was playful, poignant, and deeply safe, where different parts of myself could arise through experimentation, vulnerability, and wildness. We spoke beforehand about mythical archetypes I was exploring, and I brought a few costumes to work with—but what emerged wasn’t staged. It felt spontaneous, alive, and REAL.
Innocent Wonder, Sensual Eros, my Wild Woman, and a grounded, mature Wise Woman all came forward.
Seeing the images afterward was awe-inspiring!! I couldn’t stop looking at them. They all feel like guides—like a ritual honoring of who I am and who I am becoming.
Anyone who has the good fortune to work with her is in for a deep journey of remembering and becoming.”

YOUR GUIDE
For the past 20 years, I’ve worked as a photographer while living amidst vast wilderness, where I’ve found a deep kinship with the living world. My work is shaped by that intimacy and reflects a genuine love for wild places.
My work is also drawn deeply from dreams, imagination, and the mythic realms, where image-making becomes a way of listening to what creative forces and energies want to emerge.
These portrait sessions are a space to step into something more alive, imaginative, instinctive, wild, and soulful, in ways that feel deeply true.

MYTHIC SELF-PORTRAITS
For the past five years, I’ve been exploring my own self-portrait photography as a way of meeting different parts of myself through myth, land, body, dreams, and imagination. I guide others through this process from my own experience.
If you feel curious about exploring a mythic portrait session, I’d love to meet you in a free 20-minute consultation call.
